Shackets - the ultimate ‘inbetweener’

Do you ever spend too long getting ready just to ‘nip out’ on a dog walk? We have too and it’s always the same concerns, you don’t want to get your formal jacket dirty, but you also can’t just wear a shirt as the breeze is a little too nippy. Wouldn’t it be ideal if you could have a shirt jacket … a shacket!

A shacket really leaves the discombobulation behind, no more confusion or wasted time wondering what suits the occasion, just throw it on and walk out the door, except this time, you know you look good. In this TOG blog, we’ll look at what a shacket is, as well as how to wear one and what to wear with it, so by the end, you’ll be totally clued up

What is a shacket?

A shacket is a mix between the style of a shirt and warmth of a jacket, which some people call an ‘overshirt’. They are often thought of as the perfect ‘inbetween’ and can be worn for a variety of occasions under many weather conditions.

Like a shirt, they are designed with a buttoned front and pockets on the chest with fabrics varying from wools and fleece for colder months or summer-ready denim and linen. Although shackets resemble a shirt, sometimes the style is adapted slightly to meet trends - we have seen cropped, oversized and longer shapes - great if you’re a fashionista, but not so much if you’re after a versatile piece to stand the test of time (and English weather)!

What occasions could you wear a shacket?

Precisely the reason why shackets are so loved is because they’re versatile. Smart like a shirt, you can wear them to the office, but they also have a casual feel about them depending on the material they’re made from. You can nip to the shop, take the god dog for a walk, meet a client and go to the bar, all wearing the same garment - is there any occasion in which the shacket isn’t suitable?

Shakers are great all year round

The open front keeps you cool during summer, which can be easily buttoned up during the winter period. Shackets also leave some room to layer underneath, so you can pop on a jumper to keep the cool off.

For winter months -

Opt for a cosy, wool or fleece material, layering a hoodie underneath for extra warmth. The Keiran is the perfect option here and has proved a very popular choice among men who like the ‘inbetween’ vibe.

For summer months -

A lightweight linen or cotton are breathable options, great to put on when the sun goes down.

Spring and Autumn -

All materials are suitable here if you layer them up or wear them as they are!
