Your handy kit guide to enjoying a day out along the King Charles III coast path
If you're anything like us, you live for those lovely days spent exploring all that mother nature has to offer. Now the sun has decided to show up (finally), what better way to make the most of it than by spending the day strolling along the newly named King Charles III England Coast Path?
We here at TOG24 are beyond thrilled to team up with Go Jauntly to celebrate the inclusion of this stunning coastal network in their app, especially as the majority of England can access it!
So, let’s get stuck in and discover how your day along this national trail can be made even more delightful with a bit of prep.
Walking along the King Charles III England Coast Path
If you weren’t already aware, this path was originally called the England Coast Path, and the newly named King Charles III England Coast Path is of course in celebration of King Charles’ coronation. This super-duper, extra-long route covers every coastal county in England, and once it’s all fully open, the trail will stretch over 2,700 miles...now, that’s one way to get your steps in.
There are some stunning things to see along this route, which vary from county to county, so whichever point you come at it, you can enjoy castles in Northumberland, to the cliff tops of Dover, with coastal towns, villages and of course, many a pub stop along the way.
If you haven’t already guessed, we’re so excited about this newly vamped national trail, as coastal walk enthusiasts ourselves, we firmly believe that everyone should be able to enjoy the great outdoors regardless of location. Speaking of enjoyment, as you know, the key to enjoying full days out is in the prep, especially when your route takes you along the coast. So, let’s take a look at some of the essentials you’ll need to make the most of your (long) jaunt!
What kit do you need when walking along the coast?
Whether you’re a solo traveller looking to tackle the coastal trail on your tod (pure bliss), or you’re a parent determined to avoid the dreaded “are we there yet?” question, getting the right kit ahead of time can make all the difference to your overall experience. Lucky for you, we've pulled together a handy list of essentials to ensure you're comfortable and prepared for whatever a day walking King Charles’ path may bring.
Walking shoes
It’ll be no surprise to you that the secret to any enjoyable walk is in the footwear. Get them right and you can walk on and on until your heart’s content; get it wrong, and you could be stopping your stroll short due to some rather annoying blisters.
With that said, we’d always recommend a good pair of walking boots, as these sole mates (apologies) will have you covered for all eventualities, including length of walk, the type of terrain you’re walking on and the varying weather conditions. After all, look after your feet and you’ll go far.
You might think that a pair of trainers will suffice, and perhaps in some cases they will, but you’re always better going for long-enduring support and comfort over brief comfort. (if you don’t believe us, understanding the difference between walking boots and trainers might help!)
What to include in your backpack
If you know you’re going to be out walking all day, then the chances are you will have already considered taking a backpack. Very wise. Not only will this help keep your shoulders up and straighten your posture, but it will also ensure that you’ve got quick access to everything you need when you need it.
Here are the essentials that we recommend you pack for your coastal walk:
- Water flask
- Sun cream
- Snacks
- Packaway waterproof jacket
- Sunglasses
- Insect repellent
- Phone + portable charger
- Map
- Mini first aid kit (you just never know)
Comfortable clothing
